1. (a) Design an algorithm to count number of vowels, consonants, numerical digits, words, white spaces and other characters in a given line of text.
(b) Write a shell program to generate divisors of a given integer.
(c) Explain how graphics are supported in MS-WINDOWS.
2. (a) Explain the differences between :
(i) Third generation and Fourth generation languages
(ii) Function and Subroutine
(iii) Compiler and Interpreter
(b) Discuss the functionality and implementation of Two pass Assembler.
3. Write short notes on the following mechanisms that support interprocess communication and synchronization :
(a) Critical Regions
(b) Conditional Critical Regions
(c) Monitors
(d) Message Passing
4. (a) Construct context free grammar for accepting English language statement and also generate a parse tree for English sentence "The boy went to school".
(b) Explain the concepts Cross Compiler and Boot Strapping.
(c) List and interpret the functions of a loader.
5. (a) Discuss the similarities and differences between paging and segmentation.
(b) Describe the file structure in UNIX operating system.
6. (a) Write a shell program to find the odd and even numbers in a given list of numbers.
(b) Explain the following with reference to UNIX O/s:
(i) CPU scheduling
(ii) Memory management
