Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University hosting the prestigious 93rd Indian Science Congress is giving final touches to arrangements for the event starting on January 3. Agricultural Minister, N.Raghuveera Reddy who reviewed the arrangements on Wednesday said that it was the first time an agricultural university was hosting the Indian Science Congress (ISC). The five day Science Congress being organized at a cost of Rs.7.5 crores would have 'Integrated rural development: science and technology' as its theme.
More than 80 delegates from 27 countries including three Nobel laureates, 5000 experts and NGOs will attend the Science Congress to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He will also inaugurate 'Bharat Nirman science exhibition' that will be open to the general public. President APJ Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the focal theme and 'National Virtual Congress of Farmers' on January 5 and launch 'Mission 2007: every village a knowledge centre'. Nearly 1000 papers will be presented touching a variety of topics during technical sessions. General President of Science Congress and former ANGRAU Vice-Chancellor IV Subbarao said that though technology had been advancing, rural areas remained as they were. ABGRAU Vice-Chancellor S.Raghu Vardhan Reddy said that Children's Science Congress and Children Science Exhibition will take place and nearly 500 students will participate.
