Sponsored by the Assam Science Society and the Physics Academy of the Northeast along with Tezpur University, university vice-chancellor P.C. Deka inaugurated the workshop. He said in his inaugural address that the rapid changes that have taken place in the field of science and technology in recent years have brought about a transformation in the quality of life. School of Science and Technology dean S.K. Dolui presided over the programme while organising committee chairman Amarjyoti Choudhury introduced the theme of the celebrations at the workshop and highlighted the importance of physics in all spheres of life. Others who delivered special talks on different fields of physics during the workshop included former Cotton College principal K.D. Krori, A. Mukherjee of S.N. Bose Institute of Basic Science, Calcutta, N. Chandra from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, M.K. Parida from North Eastern Hill University (Nehu), Shillong, Pratima Agarwalla from IIT, Guwahati, and D.K. Choudhury from Gauhati University.
