Each subject or component of evaluation is split into certain number of units. The number of units will be approximately the number of minimum contact hours divided by 10. The teacher teaching the subject, with the consent of the Department Council, will decide the method as well as the content of evaluation of each unit of each subject. The method as well as the content of evaluation of each unit of Summer Placement Report, Summer Placement Seminar, Dissertation work, Dissertation, Dissertation Seminar, Project Courses and Courses of Independent Study will be decided by the concerned guide with the consent of the Department Council. The respective teacher or the guide of the unit will do the assessment as well as grading.
Summer Placement Seminar and Dissertation Seminar will be organised as public seminars, where anybody from the audience can ask questions, unless the organisation on which the work was done required the results to be kept confidential. In the latter case only the examiners will be present during the Seminar.
Method of Evaluation
The method as well as the content of evaluation of each subject of each term will be reviewed by a committee of examiners appointed by the Vice Chancellor from a panel of approved examiners. The committee will consist of atleast three examiners, of which preferably atleast two will be from outside the Department and atleast one from outside the State of Goa. Atleast one of the examiners should preferably be from the corporate sector. If the work for a committee is on the higher side, more than one committee may be appointed.
Other Information regarding Evaluation
All answer sheets, assignments, project reports, marks lists, etc. shall be available for the scrutiny of the committee. The results of the term are finalised after the approval of the committee with suitable modifications suggested by them. The committee for Term 5 will also be the scrutinising committee for Term 4.
After evaluation, each student will be graded for each unit, as per the following scheme: A Grade - Excellent, B Grade - Good, C Grade - Satisfactory, D Grade - Low Pass, F Grade - Failed
A student would be considered as having passed in a subject of 4 units if he/she gets not more than two F grades for that paper. For a paper of three or two units, he/she should get not more than one F grade for a pass. For a paper of one unit, he/she should not get an F grade for a pass. In general, for a pass in a subject, a student should not have a F-grade for more than 50% of the units. In case a student fails in more than 6 subjects in Terms 1, 2 and 3 taken together, the student will not be promoted to Term 5. The student will have the option of re-registering for the subject(s) in subsequent academic years by paying the appropriate fee and attempt to seek pass in the subject(s), not registering for second year terms to have a break for clearing backlog of failed subjects. Students will not be allowed to re-register for failed first year subjects while undergoing the second year term.
To obtain a pass in MBA, the student should have obtained pass in all the subjects. A student who has not met the requirements for pass in MBA may re-register for the failed subjects by paying the appropriate fee and attempt to obtain a pass within a period of four years from the date of joining the MBA programme. The Department may not be in a position to make changes in the Time-Table of subjects to avoid clashes of sessions to accommodate all such students. A student has to register/re-register for a full subject and not a part thereof. A student re-registering for dissertation related subjects should re-register for all the three subjects viz. 605, 704 and 705. A student re-registering for Summer Placement related subject should re-register for both 401 and 402. A student who has failed in an elective subject may register for another elective subject while re-registering. A student who wants to improve grades in a subject or subjects may re-register for such a subject or subjects in subsequent years by paying the appropriate fee and attempt to obtain improved grades in such a subject or subjects within a period of four years from the date of joining the MBA programme. The Department may not be in a position to make changes in the time-table to avoid clashes of sessions to accommodate all such students. This provision will not be available for students after they receive their MBA degree. In all cases of re-registration, the grades obtained in the last registration by the student will hold good. All other provisions, rules and regulations of the MMS (Master of Management Studies) programme which do not contradict the provisions, rules and regulations of the MBA programme will be applicable for the MBA programme. For the candidates of the MMS programme, who are yet to clear the programme or various subjects of the programme, the Department Council will decide the appropriate mode of conversion from the MBA programme to the MMS programme on a case to case basis.
