28th Post-Graduate Programme in Rural Management (PRM 2007-2009) and 6th Fellow Programme in Rural Management (FPRM 2007)

The Institute with a Mission

IRMA's mission is to promote sustainable, eco-friendly and equitable socio-economic development of rural people through professional management of their institutions. IRMA promotes professional management of rural organisations through four inter-related activities of education, training, research and consultancy. Its faculty comprises experienced academicians and practitioners. IRMA uses state-of-the-art pedagogy. It has modern IT infrastructure, Internet connectivity in individual hostel rooms, and a fully-automated library.

Post-Graduate Programme in Rural Management (PRM)

PRM is a two-year residential programme comprising four different segments – classroom, fieldwork, organisational exposure and management training. The programme leads to a Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM), which is recognised as equivalent to a Master's Degree by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Eligibility:

Graduates with minimum of 15 years (10+2+3) of education and having 50% (45% for SC/ST/PWD) aggregate marks or an equivalent GPA from a recognised Indian or foreign University / Institution are eligible to apply. The percentage of aggregate marks is to be calculated as per the practice followed by the concerned University / Institution. Final year students who expect to obtain 50% aggregate marks and will complete all requirements of graduation before June 04, 2007, can also apply. Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply.

Sponsored Candidates:

IRMA encourages its designated organisations (Specific agencies engaged in or supporting rural development) to sponsor their regular employees to apply for this programme. The sponsored candidates should hold a Bachelor's Degree in any discipline and at least two years experience in the sponsoring organisation. They can foin for the full two year programme or can opt for Certificate in Rural Management (CRM) at the end of the first year. If sponsored, the CRM holders have the option to rejoin within three years to complete second year of the PRM.

Scholarships and Educational Loans:

(i) About 30 AMUL-TATA Fellowships of Rs. 1,00,000 each during 2nd year of PRM, based on merit-cum-means (under negotiation). (ii) Some scholarships from Sir Ratan Tata Trust during 2nd year of PRM. (iii) Some scholarships for SC/ST candidates from the National Dairy Development Board, Anand. (iv) Educational loans at concessional rates from public sector banks. (v) Sector Incentive Scholarships of Rs. 1,00,000 each for those serving an eligible designated organisation for three years immediately after completion of PRM.

Campus Placement:

IRMA has an excellent palcement programme, IRMANs are highly valued in local, national and international Co-operatives, NGOs, development organisations and funding agencies. IRMA facilitates placement of its students only in its designated organisations. Placement facility is not open to sponsored candidates.

Fellow Programme in Rural Management(FPRM)

FPRM is a doctoral level residential programme. It comprises course work, a comprehensive examination, a research / teaching module, and a thesis.

Areas of Specialisation:

(a) Management of Co-operatives: (b) Agricultural / Rural Marketing: (c.) Rural Economics and Natural Resources Management (land, water, forests); (d) Development Management; and (e) Micro-finance.

Eligibility:

Candidates with (i) PRM from IRMA with minimum two years experience, OR (ii) Two-year full time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management with 55% aggregate marks or equivalent GPA and minimum two years experience, OR (iii) One Year Programme (OTP) from IRMA with minimum three years experience, OR (iv) Post-Graduate degree in any discipline with 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent GPA and two years experience, OR (v) M.Phil. in any discipline with 55% aggregrate marks or an equivalent GPA, are eligible to apply. The qualifying degree or diploma should be from a recognised Indian or foreign University / Institution and percentage of aggregate marks should be calculated as per the practice followed by the concerned University / Institution. Only full time work experience in managerial cadre, research, consultancy or teaching at degree/PG level will be considered towards experience.

Fellowship:

FPRM participants are eligible for a fellowship of Rs. 10,000 (gross) per month and a contingency grant of Rs. 20,000 per year for a maximum period of three years. Only in deserving cases, the fellowship and contingency grant may be extended beyond three years. Participants are expected to provide teaching and research assistance.

Selection for PRM and FPRM:

PRM participants would be selected on the basis of written test, GD and interview. FPRM participants will be selected on the basis of written test, interview and presentation of research proposal. The written test (same for PRM & FPRM) will be conducted on November 26, 2006 (Sunday: 9.15 AM – 12.15 PM) at 29 centres across India. Only the candidates who qualify in the written test will be called for the next stage of selection to be conducted in February-March 2007 at IRMA, Anand. Candidates with IRMA's PRM applying for FPRM are exempted from the written test.

Anand, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pantnagar, Patna, Puna, Raipur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Silchar, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Varanasi and Vijayawada.

For application form and prospectus, write to: Admissions Co-ordinator, Institute of Rural Management, Anand – 388 001 with a demand draft for Rs. 100/- drawn in favour of INSTITUTE OF RURAL MANAGEMENT payable at Anand and three self-address slips of 3" x 3". The form and prospectus can also be printed free of cost from IRMA website: http://www.irma.ac.in. The facility to apply online is also available at IRMA website.
