About the course

Students joining the programme are eligible for the award of degree in M.Sc. Biotechnology on successful completion of the course.

The Maharaja Sayajirao University has strong base in Microbial Technology and the main features of the programme are Genetic Engineering, Molecular Biology, Industrial Microbiology and Immunology. The basic training is given in Mircrobiology, Biochemistry, Genetic Engineering, Developmental Biology, Biochemical Engineering and some aspects of Biophysics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Plant Tissue culture and Environmental Biotechnology. Students work on a research project for the duration of their course as a part of the practical training. The aim is to provide them sufficient experience and proficiency in the methodology of biological research to enable them to carry out independent research. Projects are assigned, as far as possible, according to the individual interests of students, and are carried out in our own laboratories or of other departments or institutions/ industry. After submission of their dissertation, the students undergo a viva-voce, in which they have to defend their work.

Students are also required to give one seminar during their course and submit a project proposal and a term paper.
