Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam delivering his address at a two-day workshop on the "Role of Technological Universities", organised by the Visvesvaraya Technological University at the Indian Institute of Science. The workshop is organized as a part of President's India Vision 2020 program.
He called upon vice-chancellors of universities and academics involved in such a mission to formulate an integrated course so that students could become entrepreneurs after their education.
The Higher Education Minister, G. Parameshwar, who read out the Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna's speech, said Mr. Krishna endorsed the sentiments expressed by Dr. Kalam. He quoted Mr. Krishna as saying research in nanotechnology and engineering, space technology, advanced material and composite technology and biotechnology had been the guiding force of late.
The Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, spoke. Balaveera Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University, and G. Govardhan Mehta, Director, IISc., welcomed the President.
Dr. Reddy presented a list of 10 recommendations made at the workshop to Dr. Kalam.
