About the Course

With the dawn of new millennium, the most radical revolution in the field of electronic technology is that of Biomedical Instrumentation. It is a course that paves a link between doctors and engineers. It involves design and implementation of medical devices and systems.

A MoU with the K.G. Hospitals and trips to research centres like Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Science, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cancer Institute, Adyar give good exposure to students. Eminent professionals including Doctors and Engineers deliver Guest lectures.

The department has well-established laboratories where equipment with latest technologies are used. The labs include, image Processing Lab, Diagnostic & therapeutic Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab, Medical Electronics Lab, Biosensors and Transducers Lab. Emerging fields like VLSI design, Virtual instrumentation are also introduced in the curriculum. This course has got wide scope in various fields. Biomedical engineers are required in the field of software for creating medical software to support new generation medical imaging systems, in pubic sector companies for developing and manufacturing new medical equipment and in the hospitals for maintenance and servicing of all medical equipment.

Students are placed in various public and private sectors. Many of the students continue their higher studies in reputed institutions in India and abroad.

Eligibility

To get admission the applicants should write a separate Entrance Test conducted by Avinashilingam Deemed University / State Level Common Entrance Examination (CEE) / All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE).

Candidates should have passed in Higher Secondary Examination (Academic / Vocational Stream) and obtained a minimum aggregate percentage of marks as indicated below

Criteria - OC - SC/ST

H.S.C - Academic Stream - (Maths +Physics +Chemistry) - 50% - A pass
H.S.C. - Vocational Stream - (Maths +Theory +Practical) - 50% - A pass

Age limit

Only candidate whose date of birth falls on or after 10-10-1981 is eligible.
For SC/ST and Physically handicapped candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years.

SC/ST candidates are given 50% fee concession in the tuition fees

Candidates should have passed the Diploma Courses in relevant branches and obtained a minimum aggregate percentage of marks in pre-final and final semesters as given below

Criteria - OC - SC/ST

Aggregate - (Pre-final + Final Semesters) - 60% - A pass

(Lateral Entry) - 3 years (6 semesters)

Age limit

Only candidates should have completed the age of 24 years as on 1st july of current year

SC/ST candidates are given 50% fee concession in the tuition fees
